Fire in the Northwest - Rock 'n' Roll - Rogue Valley Oregon
Somewhere in the Northwestern region of the United States, (Oregon specifically), it seems that there really is a fire burning—one that can’t be stopped. Starting all the way back in 2009, Fire in the Northwest has been going strong ever since, despite some brief member hiatuses, and the band is poised to continue lighting up local clubs and bars for many years to come with their signature brand of rock and metal.
While the band has no official recordings posted, there is certainly much to glean from the multiple YouTube videos of Fire in the Northwest has streaming, all from the group’s recent show at the Southern Oregon “Last Band Standing” competition of 2013. “Death Rides on an Iron Horse” is a great introduction to the band’s sound, with its strong lead guitar riffing and galloping verses, equally catchy and heavy. The vocalist shows off his solid voice by staying right on pitch throughout the duration of the track.
“Riff Zombie” is another enjoyable heavy rock track, with its bouncy chorus and the drummer’s generously applied cowbell during the verses. Despite its comical title, “Cried and Peed” is probably the band’s best and most serious offering: an 8-minute monster of a song featuring some great Iron Maiden-inspired lead guitar and a rousing spoken-word speech from the vocalist near the song's conclusion.
You can only take so much from some live videos posted online, but even though that’s all the world can listen to at the moment, it’s still very clear what kind of band Fire in the Northwest is. Fans of rock/metal will easily find their way to this southern Oregon band’s songs, featuring their signature execution of the widely beloved genre, and it’s only a matter of time before Fire in the Northwest gets some real recordings posted. Give the Youtube videos a whirl if the aggressive rock/metal sounds your thing, and afterwards, chances are you’ll be keeping that fire alive any way you can!
