IAmDynamite - Rock 'n' Roll - Canton, MI
When I read the first few lines of their info box on Facebook, to see that this band was a simple duo caught my attention, in a bad way; I know of other two-pieces claiming to be bands, but only few manage to make some really good, enjoyable music. So, my first question was "Can IAmDynamite pull this off, or will they be just another duo to discard?". With this question pending, I ventured into their recently released album, "SUPERMEGAFANTASTIC".
"Where Will We Go" was the first song I listened to, and I didn't expect it to start so quickly. I barely had time to click play, and the catchy vocals started, with a nice and steady drum beat that charges you up and leads into a really head bobbing and foot tapping song that's sure to be stuck in your head and provide you with a shower sing along tune for days to come. And it's just the first song. At this point, It'd be easy to say the band has answered my question, but I decided to keep listening to the rest of the songs before making my final determination. And on to the second song, "Hi Lo".
Again, the first thing that catches the ear of the listener is the catchy drum beat that gets the song flowing and your foot tapping, preparing the stage for the poppy melodic vocals. And just when you thought you couldn't have been more caught up, the song ends with a really nice sing along-ish moment where you'll find yourself going "Ba bada, ba bada" with frontman Christopher Martin. Needless to say, so far it was two out of two, so I was really wondering if the band was going to prove me right or wrong with the next few songs. That's when "Ms.Jones" came into play.
The song opens with some acapella singing, and after a couple of seconds the instrumentation is there to back the vocals up. At first the song can sound like the classic slow song that every CD must have now a days, but again, give this dynamite duo a couple of seconds, and they will prove you wrong. The song has ups and downs, fast and slow parts - personally, I'm not a fan of the slowed down parts and in my opinion this tune is not one of their strongest, but it's definitely worth a listen.
Overall, these guys managed to get into my "duo bands to keep an eye on" list, and I must say, that list is not very long at all. When they pick up the pace, these guys shine, they've found their sound and they're sticking to it!
